July 2011: £3M Arctic project funded
The £3m ACCACIA project will focus on Arctic low-level clouds, which have a massive impact not just on the polar region, but the climate of the entire globe due to a range of complex feedback mechanisms.
The NERC project is led by Leeds (Ian Brooks). The GLOMAP group will contribute by using observations from the Arctic to improve models of aerosol emission and transport. In particular, we are interested in understanding how aerosol sources might change in the future as sea ice retreats, and what feedback effect that might have on climate.
