MACC: Monitoring Atmospheric Composition and Climate
MACC is an EU Integrated Project led by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts to provide information services covering European Air Quality, Global Atmospheric Composition, Climate, and UV and Solar Energy.
The role of the GLOMAP group is to incorporate the GLOMAP model in the ECMWF Integrated Forecasting System to enable more advanced aerosol forecasts in future. At present, the existing system uses a bulk aerosol scheme that can predict the masses of various aerosol components as well as the aerosol optical depth (see the forecasts). GLOMAP will provide the capability for full aerosol microphysics products so that particle sizes, number concentrations, etc can be forecast on a global scale.
