GLOMAP

Global Model of Aerosol Processes

Palaeo-volcano effects on climate

This PhD project (Anja Schmidt) is a collaboration with Earth Scientists (Prof Marjorie Wilson) and palaeoclimate modellers (Alan Haywood) in the School of Earth and Environment. The aim is to use GLOMAP-mode to quantify the effect of massive flood basalt eruptions on Earth’s palaeoclimate. We are starting by investigating the eruption of Laki in Iceland in 1783. This eruprion has some parallels with more ancient eruptions, which lasted considerably longer.
