QUEST-QUAAC
QUEST is a major NERC initiative to quantitatively understand the climate system. The aims of the QUAAC (QUEST Aerosol and Atmospheric Composition) sub program is to investigate the role of tropospheric photochemistry and aerosols on climate. This is a large multi-institution program. At Leeds the contributions are towards developing chemistry and aerosol schemes for inclusion into the chemistry-climate model UKCA. The chemistry schemes are to be based upon the comprehensive Master Chemical Mechanism developed at Leeds. The emphasis here will be on reducing the complexity of these schemes so they can be included into a chemistry climate model. The aerosol schemes are to be based on simplifications of the complex aerosol microphysics schemes included in the GLOMAP models of aerosols, chemistry and transport.
