Analytical Expertise
- Competent with use of a 3 channel nutrient auto-analyser from start-up, calibration, sample preparation, fault troubleshooting (including plumbing) and shut-down.
- Fully competent with the use of wet chemical methods and fluorometry/photometry to determine nutrient concentrations in aqueous solution.
- Proficient in sample preparation methods for: -
- ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) spectroscopy
- XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence spectrosocopy) - (i.e. fusion bead production).
Specialist Training
- Plant tissue culture (using sterile technique).
- Semi-clean techniques for trace nutrient/trace metal analysis.
- Rock preparation, cutting, disk milling, grading.
- Liquid nitrogen handling.
- Proficient in completing risk assessments and COSHH forms.
- i/c of the disposal of dry, chemically contaminated waste from my lab.

Rothamsted Research. (July 2009).
Outreach presentations on my work and the work of scientists in general and practical sessions to a class of 8-11 year old children at
Bunwell Primary School for National Science and Engineering Week (March 2010 and March 2011).
Gave presentations on work every 2-3 months to the Root Hair Cell Development Group at JIC.
